New students usually arrive early at Manchester to scout for apartments and get to know the city before the start of term. Parents and families usually accompany them as well, to help them get settled. The university has two hotels on campus, built specifically for such students. The University of Dundee offers catered and self-catered lodging for students, which are open for summer leases to families and tourists. There are also several hotels to choose from, many of which can be found in the city centre and close to the University.

Hotels and Accommodation

The Chancellors Hotel and Conference Centre offers 75 non-smoking bedrooms, most of which overlook the hotel's landscaped lawns. All rooms have tea and coffee facilities, a television, direct dial telephone, hair dryers, and en suite bathroom.

The Manchester Conference Centre is a short walk from the Piccadilly station and the city's shopping and cultural centres. The hotel offers 117 bedrooms with a choice between single, double, or twin beds, as well as broadband Internet access, direct-dial telephone, and satellite TV with pay movies available.

Student Accommodation

The University of Manchester has 26 undergraduate and 25 postgraduate residence halls. Students can choose from catered and self-catered residence halls. Catered residence halls offer complete meals daily, with small kitchens for preparation of drinks and light snacks. Self-catered halls have large communal kitchens to allow students to prepare their own food. All residence halls have ethernet points for unlimited Internet access, sports and laundry facilities, music rooms, libraries, in-house bars, and free parking space.
